Individual Literacy Intervention
CLLC puts children at the centre of their learning in a kind, caring environment so that they may read and write with confidence. Through an evidence-based teaching approach, CLLC creates individualised programs uniquely suited to each child's needs.

Cristal Literacy Learning Centre CLLC provides individual literacy intervention for children who have been diagnosed with a Specific Learning Disorder in Reading and Writing (formerly known as Dyslexia) and for children, who do not have a diagnosis, who are struggling to learn to read and write. Children who fall into the latter category are referred to as ‘instructional casualties’.
At CLLC, I design special education courses for children diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty to provide rigorous individualised learning plans, as no two children are the same. The learning plans are based on systematic synthetic phonics, which is the term used to describe a sequential approach to learning to read and write. It teaches children how to identify letters (graphemes) and their associated sounds (phonemes). CLLC follows a structured and explicit way of educating children to read, by breaking words down into the smallest units of sounds. This process is the systematic part of the process. We then teach the child to blend the sounds together to read the word, the synthetic part of the process, to synthesise.

Why is this approach to learning to read and write so effective? Click here to see Alison Clarke (OAM), the founder of Spelfabet, explain this approach. She is a renowned Speech Pathologist who runs her clinic in Fitzroy.
CLLC takes a caring and kind approach to teaching children. I recognise that children may be shy at first because of their negative experiences in the classroom and their negative views of themselves as learners. Children who are behind their peers in reading and writing can feel frustrated and disengaged from school and their classmates. As they grow older, they may feel anxious, overwhelmed and depressed. They may come home feeling exhausted from trying their hardest during each session of the day, whether during Guided Reading or Maths. CLLC knows that children who struggle to learn to read and write are often the hardest workers in the classroom. I honour their commitment to learning through providing rigorous and engaging tailored lessons.
CLLC offers one-to-one in person or online lessons. I use decodable readers, such as Little Learners Love Literacy and Dandelion Readers, in line with the recommendation of Speech Pathologists, who are experts in the field.
